Design for sustainability is integral to all projects in the studio as standard. Progressive technologies and strategies are methodically supported in the design at each project stage.

ASSEMBLAGE has achieved new-build BREEAM ratings of "Excellent" since 2008.

The studio adopts a 3D Building Information Modelling (BIM) workflow, combining intelligent drawn geometry with project-wide coordinated information databases.

ASSEMBLAGE uses market-leading Autodesk Revit software.

The use of both physical and digital models is an integral part of the studio's working process. These models range widely in scope from conceptual sketch models to larger format presentation models. The models explore conceptual, structural and detailing design issues for the benefit of client and designer alike.

Abstract and realistic visualisations of design work are produced in-house by the studio, including films. The studio also supplies graphic identities, signage and 2D materials palettes for built work.

ASSEMBLAGE develops its design approach through research.

This research is carried out in association with Universities, other studios, individuals, and via in-house projects.

Examples of research work are included within the selected project pages.

ASSEMBLAGE lead Design in the Masters of Architecture in Historic Urban Environments [MAHUE] at The Bartlett, University College London (UCL). This Master's programme pioneers the development of a more diverse and creative approach to the reinterpretation and reuse of historical environments in cities around the world.
