ABOUT

ASSEMBLAGE is a London-based studio of architects and urban designers active in a wide field of design from individual objects and buildings through to large urban strategies. Launched in 2003, the studio enjoys commissions from a variety of private and public sector clients in the UK and internationally.

ASSEMBLAGE is a Chartered Practice with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA)


RESEARCH

ASSEMBLAGE develops its design approach through research.

This research is carried out in association with Universities, other studios, individuals, and via in-house projects.

ASSEMBLAGE lead Design in the Masters of Architecture in Historic Urban Environments [MAHUE] at The Bartlett, University College London (UCL).

The MAHUE Master's programme pioneers the development of a more diverse and creative approach to the reinterpretation and reuse of historical environments in cities around the world.

ASSEMBLAGE have also led a Masters Unit in Urban Design at The Bartlett, University College London (UCL).  

The Unit undertook long-term research through design of the challenges of global urbanisation.

Members of ASSEMBLAGE are also regular external critic for several leading universities.

ASSEMBLAGE are are a member of the steering committee for CLOUD the Centre for London Urban Design.

CLOUD is a centre for research, debate, and projects that address spatial and environmental issues facing London through innovative architecture and urban design. CLOUD is focused on the practical application of the research being carried out.

Londonon is run by collaborating London based architecture practices. We pool resources, question, collaborate, make and experience — to broaden our minds, expand our reach and widen our world view.

SUSTAINABILITY

Design for sustainability is integral to all projects in the studio as standard. Progressive technologies and strategies are methodically supported in the design at each project stage. ASSEMBLAGE has achieved new-build BREEAM ratings of "Excellent" since 2008.

 

SOFTWARE

The studio uses market-leading Autodesk Revit software, a 3D Building Information Modelling (BIM) workflow, combining intelligent drawn geometry with project-wide coordinated information databases. 

MODELS

The use of both physical and digital models is an integral part of the studio's working process. These models range widely in scope from conceptual sketch models to larger format presentation models. The models explore conceptual, structural and detailing design issues for the benefit of client and designer alike.

 

GRAPHICS

Abstract and realistic visualisations of design work are produced in-house by the studio, including films. The studio also supplies graphic identities, signage and 2D materials palettes for built work.

ASSEMBLAGE | HOUSE is a design team dedicated to high quality residential architecture within the ASSEMBLAGE studio.

ASSEMBLAGE were awarded first place in the International competition for the design of The New Iraq Parliament 2012.

ASSEMBLAGE won the UN HABITAT Economic Housing commission International design competition 2011.
